The Sonardyne LCU MF Duplex (Type 7663) is a commercial-grade, medium-frequency acoustic dunking transceiver engineered and manufactured in the United Kingdom for offshore marine and subsea survey industries. Acting as a lightweight command unit, the device features a ruggedized underwater transducer assembly shielded by a protective cage, allowing operators to lower it over the side of a vessel to transmit and receive secure acoustic signals through the water column. Historically deployed by major oceanic data firms like Fugro GEOS, this highly specialized hardware is primarily utilized to command, communicate with, and trigger acoustic release transponders deployed on the seabed during deep-water scientific or oil and gas operations.
